Help Raise the Roof

April 4, 2020 By Ray Beard Leave a Comment

If you walked around the church at all other than the Sanctuary you would notice buckets and pails in many areas capturing water from a leaky roof.  And along with that you may have noticed damage done to the interior of the church.  There has been much done to try to rectify this problem but flat roofs tend to be challenging.  The Board of Elders and Deacons finally had to resolve that the roof needed to be renewed and no longer repaired.  Much study and footwork went into what should be done and at the same time using wisdom in the stewardship of God’s monies.  A whole range of studies have been made each at a dear cost.  No rash decisions were made as time for the Board to contemplate and prayer was given.

The roof renewal settled upon by the Board is one that will cost the church about $16,000 and should be a solution for many years to come.  It is important that we do not let the present building go in disrepair. We are always complimented on how well kept our church building is.  This comes through the efforts of many who take pride in their services to the upkeep of the church.

As you know it has been our practice not to make special projects except in cases like this.  It is because of the diligence and wisdom of the Board that we can pay the bill. However, the balance in the treasury will be taking a hit. So the Board of Elders and Deacons is asking you to pray and find it in your heart to give a special offering to help defray the cost of this project.  This is a challenge because it should be above and beyond our regular giving to the church which supports our church outreach, services, programs, benevolence and missions.

We have a church that practices not asking for monies nor does our preacher preach messages on the subject because God’s people here have always been greatly generous in their giving.  You have been blessed and you bless the church with your regular tithes and offerings.  God has always met our needs and even our wants.  It’s astounding what God does through you.

If you give through your envelope, please mark what you give for the roof project.  We would like to have an account of what all was given toward the roof.   If you give a special check, mark it for the roof.  Of course, cash offerings are accepted as well.  Anything that anyone can give will help.  By replenishing the treasury we are able to maintain the building and be prepared for other emergencies that may come along.

Think of it as a matter of faith and stewardship.  Think of it as memorial to those who built the church many years ago and an honor to ourselves to keep it.

The roof will be completed by the time that you get this message.  It could no longer be put off.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask any Deacon, Elder or the Preacher.

No one should feel pressured nor obligated in any way.  “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”            (II Cor. 9:7 The Living Translation)

Together we can raise the roof!
