Being secure is an important part of our lives. We want to be secure in our families, secure in our relationships, our finances, and particularly our lives. We pray and hope for a secure peace in the world and a government that is secure. We subject ourselves to measures to give us the feeling of security. I find myself going through metal detectors everywhere I go. I counted four times I went through a detector this last week alone. That included the bank, the hospital, the federal building, and the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh. After unsuccessfully walking through those detectors, I was pulled aside for a personal wanding and search. I didn’t mind because I knew it was all about being secure in the places that I was visiting.
Here’s a question for you. How secure are you in the love of Jesus? Do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves you? Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that God could love us so much. It is the only love that really counts and love when realized brings a great sense of security to your life. In John 15:9, Jesus says, “Just as the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” That is a mouthful. We would see the love of God for Jesus as being a perfect love. Jesus says He loves us as much as God loves Jesus.
Sometimes that is difficult for us to believe. Things happen in life, in this world and we think that God is responsible and should fix it. Believe me, He will fix it. We cannot salvage this world but we can save our souls. God arranged that when He sent His only son into the world to die for the sins of the world. But understand that You are part of this world. So while you were a sinner, Christ died for you. Believe that God loves you that much and you can be secure. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:3) That verse tells us we can’t have a greater love.
Not only that, Paul reminds us that “nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death, nor life….” Nothing life can throw at us and not even death itself can keep God from loving you. When you are feeling insecure about God loving you, put yourself through a detector—pray, perhaps on your knees, and pray the prayer that Paul prayed on behalf of the Ephesians “….may have power, together with all saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ….” ( Ephesians 3:18) Be secure in the knowledge that God loves you no matter what.
Says God, “I love you.”
